Why Offer Art Prints? Why Not Just Sell Originals?

I get asked this every now and then: “Why do you sell prints instead of just originals?”

And honestly, I totally get the question. Originals are special. They’re one of a kind. They hold all the brushstrokes, the pauses, and the raw emotion that goes into making it.

But prints are important to me too. To me, they're not 'lesser'. But they're actually pretty special.

First, I want my art to be accessible.

Not everyone can (or wants to) buy an original painting, and I never want my work to feel like it’s only for a small group of people. Art should feel welcoming and be available to a wide audience. Not intimidating or reserved for VIP exclusives. That is so not my style.

Prints make it possible for more people to live with my work. To hang it in their home. To see it every day. To feel something when they walk past it. That matters to me more than exclusivity ever could.

I also like that prints give people options.

Some collectors start with an entry-level art print. Others may choose to mix prints and originals. Some fall in love with a piece and later invest in the original when the time feels right. There’s no “right” way to collect art.

In my opinion, a print isn’t a watered-down version of the work. It’s just a different way of bringing it into your life.

Another big reason?

Prints let my art go out into the world... without losing the original.

The original still exists. It still has its texture, presence, and energy. But the image can live in multiple spaces at once, in different homes, with different stories around it. I actually love that idea!

It feels generous. Like sharing instead of hoarding.

And if I’m being completely honest, prints make creating feel less stressful.

They let me reuse the same artwork more than once, instead of constantly feeling like I need to pump out new work just to keep the business going. That pressure kills creativity real fast.

(It's the whole reason why I started my 100 Florals Project! If you're curious to learn more, you can read about it here.)

It is my dream to have a sustainable art business. One that doesn’t rely on me constantly trading time for money or burning myself out. Prints support that.

They give me breathing room. Space to create when it feels right, not rushed.

That aligns with my values way more than a hustle-at-all-costs model ever could. At the end of the day, I believe art is meant to be enjoyed.

Not just admired from afar, but lived with. Loved. And made part of your everyday space. Prints help make that possible, and that’s why I’ll always offer them.

That’s it. No big strategy. Just what feels right.
