Ever since I started working from home after the pandemic hit, we have moved houses and redecorated with one thing in mind. Not only do we live our daily lives here, but it is now a place of work!
When your dining table doubles as your desk, the line between "work stress" and "home sanctuary" blurs. That is exactly why it is so important to make your space pleasing, peaceful, and timeless. One of the absolute best ways to do this?
Surround yourself with joyful wall art.
If you are staring at blank walls and wondering how to bring some life into your home office (or any room!), here is my guide to choosing art that makes your heart happy.
How to Choose Joyful Wall Art
Choosing art doesn't have to be intimidating. You don't need an art history degree; you just need to know what makes you feel good.
Follow your feelings: Art should evoke an emotion. When you look at a piece, does it make you feel calm, energised, or nostalgic? For a WFH space, lean toward pieces that bring you a sense of peace and joy.
Embrace colour psychology: Colours completely change the mood of a room. Soft blues and greens are incredibly calming, while pops of yellow, pink, and peach bring instant happiness and energy.
Bring the outdoors in: This is my absolute favourite niche, floral themes! There is something inherently timeless and joyful about nature. Floral art breathes life into a stagnant room, offering a soft, organic contrast to the hard edges of computer screens and office furniture.

The Magic of Sizing and Framing
Once you find a piece you love, how you display it matters just as much as the art itself.
Choose the right size: Don't be afraid to go big! A tiny 5x7 print floating alone on a massive blank wall will get lost. If you have a large space above a sofa or a desk, opt for a large statement piece (like a 24x36) or group several smaller pieces into a gallery wall.
Finding the perfect frame: There are so many options! Light wood frames (like oak or ash) keep things feeling fresh, modern, and casual. Gold frames add a touch of vintage elegance, while crisp white frames make the art's colours pop.
Give it breathing room: If you are buying a print, consider adding a white mat border inside the frame. It instantly elevates the piece and gives the artwork room to breathe.
Where to Hang Your Art
Placement is everything when it comes to making your home feel cohesive and intentional.
The WFH background: Hang a beautiful, joyful piece directly behind your desk chair. It gives you a gorgeous background for Zoom calls and hides the fact that you might have laundry piled up just out of frame.
Your line of sight: Hang art where you will actually see it while you work. Place a serene floral piece on the wall directly in front of your desk so you have something beautiful to rest your eyes on when you look away from your screen.
Unexpected nooks: Don't just stick to the living room! Hang art in hallways, your entryway, or even the kitchen. These little colour surprises will boost your mood as you move through your day.

Where to Find the Perfect Piece
You don't have to scour generic big-box stores to find art that feels special. Supporting independent artists is a great way to find unique, joyful pieces that actually mean something. If you love colourful, nature-inspired decor, I would love to help you fill your walls!
Originals and Prints: I offer a collection of beautiful art prints and original paintings right here in my shop, with a focus on joyful floral themes that breathe life into a home.
Custom Commissions: If you have a specific size, colour palette, or favourite flower in mind, I also take custom commissions! We can work together to create the exact piece your WFH space is missing.
Your home should be your favorite place to be. Take the time to fill it with things that make you smile!
