So, you’ve found a piece of art you love… but now you’re wondering:
Should I invest in the original painting, or choose an art print instead?
The good news is that there’s no wrong answer. Both original art and art prints can bring colour, personality and joy into your home. The right choice often comes down to your budget, the space you’re styling and the connection you feel to the artwork.
Here’s a closer look at the differences, and why both can be a beautiful addition to your home.

What Makes an Original Painting So Special?
There’s something incredibly personal about owning an original painting.
Every original artwork is painted by hand, with real brushes, layers of paint, spontaneous marks and little details that can never be recreated in exactly the same way. You might see areas where the paint is thick and textured, softer layers underneath, or unexpected brushstrokes that became part of the final piece.
My paintings are created slowly and intuitively. They come from the heart and, in many ways, from the soul too.
When you buy an original, you’re not simply purchasing something to fill an empty wall. You’re bringing home a one-of-a-kind piece of my creative process... a moment in time that exists nowhere else.
No two original paintings are ever the same. Once an original has found its home, that exact artwork is gone for good.
Why Art Prints Are a Beautiful, Flexible Option
Art prints make it easier to bring original artwork into your home at a more accessible price.
My prints are professionally produced using archival-quality inks, so they are designed to last and can be enjoyed for many years. You still get the colour, movement and expressive detail of the original artwork, but with more flexibility around size, framing and budget. Prints are also easy to style. You can choose a frame that suits your home, match the artwork to your existing décor or create a gallery wall by combining several pieces.
They’re a lovely option if you:
Are decorating your first home
Want to add colour to a smaller space
Are styling multiple rooms
Love the artwork but aren’t ready to invest in an original
Want to start building your art collection gradually
A print can still create a meaningful connection and completely change the feeling of a room.

Collectability and Emotional Value
Original paintings are naturally highly collectible because there is only one of each.
But art prints can be collectible too.
My art prints are released as limited editions, which means they won’t be available forever. Once an edition has sold out (or when I decide to retire a design), it may no longer be available to purchase.
This makes each print feel a little more special than simply buying mass-produced wall décor.
Art is also deeply personal. Sometimes a particular colour, flower or feeling draws you in for reasons you can’t quite explain. You may see a painting and immediately know, That’s the one.
That emotional connection matters, whether you choose an original or a print.
When Is an Original Painting Worth the Investment?
An original may be worth investing in when you genuinely fall in love with a particular piece and can’t imagine your home without it.
It can also be a wonderful choice when you’re serious about styling your dream home and want to include meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect your personality.
Original art can become a focal point in a room. A piece that catches your eye every time you walk past it and continues to reveal new details over the years.
It may also become part of your story. Perhaps you remember where you were when you bought it, what was happening in your life or why that particular artwork spoke to you.
The value of original art isn’t only about the paint on the canvas. It’s also about the connection, the story and the feeling it brings into your home.
Why Art Prints Are a Wonderful Way to Start Collecting Art
You don’t need a huge budget to start collecting art.
An art print can be an affordable first step into building a home filled with work you genuinely love. You can begin with one piece, experiment with different sizes and framing styles, and slowly create a collection that feels personal to you.
Choosing art prints from independent artists also means you’re supporting real people and real creative work.
At a time when the internet is becoming increasingly flooded with AI-generated images and mass-produced content, choosing artwork created by a human artist feels more meaningful than ever.
Behind every painting is a person who has spent years developing their skills, finding their creative voice and putting time, care and emotion into their work.
When you buy directly from an independent artist, you’re supporting that creative practice... and helping make it possible for artists to continue creating.

So… Original Art or an Art Print?
If you’ve fallen deeply in love with a particular painting, want something completely one-of-a-kind, or are styling your dream home, an original artwork may be the perfect choice.
If you’re looking for a more affordable option, want flexibility with framing and sizing, or are just beginning your art collection, a limited-edition print can be a beautiful place to start.
And there’s no rule saying you have to choose only one.
Many collectors begin with a print and later invest in an original. Others mix original paintings and art prints throughout their homes to create a collection that feels layered, colourful and personal.
At the end of the day, the best artwork is the piece that makes you feel something… and brings a little more joy to your space.
